Thermoelectric modules are electronic heat pumps. Instead of gas (compressor based) moving heat from the interior, electrons move heat from the interior to outside room air.
The interior "cold side" has a heat sink and fan, which cools the interior. Outside of the cooler is the "hot side" heat sink and fan which removes interior heat. Sandwiched between is the thermoelectric module.
